I have used BackWPup for years. But I am very dissatisfied with the new update. The old jobs were simply stopped. Then one complete job (files & database) was turned into two. These were then automatically redirected to the web server. When I then wanted to change the destination address back to FTP, it was not possible to deselect the web server again. The new jobs now also automatically go to the web server. I therefore looked around for a new plugin and now deactivate BackWPUp on all projects.

New version seems slick but combined file/db backups won’t download and individual file-db files seem to be corrupted. New claim of support Site Restore in the Free version does not seem to work. Is there a secret other than clicking the Restore link and uploading the BackWPup zip backup file?

I have been using this plugin for about 6 years and have many sites backing up to Dropbox. It used to be the best WP backup system on the planet! This new version 5 is terrible. Awkward to setup and I can’t seem to turn off backing up locally. Also why can’t we backup files and database together now? Hoping that they are aware of the issues and working on updates to make it as easy and reliable as the Version 4.

The recent update to version 5.12 has created a lot of problems, and for no real benefits I can see. Formerly I could set the plugin to backup my site once a month to Dropbox. Now that still works, but there seems to be no way to prevent it from making and storing another copy of my server, resulting in all sorts of warnings from my host that I am over storage limits. There’s no way to switch the option off! And, worse, no way to set it to delete auto-stored versions. So now, every time it backs up to Dropbox for me, I have to log in to the back end of the site and manually delete the bloat of unnecessary and unwanted backups. It’s a real mess. I can see that 5.09 still works fine on another site, so I’m going back (and relieved to find that I can) while I consider whether to change backup plugins entirely. What’s the saying: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’ve used this plugin for years and found it great. It’s hard to understand why core functionality has to suffer in the cause of a new interface.

a beautiful case of ruining great plugins just to force change anything. Just revert to the old version and everyone will be happy

Used it for years. But now I have to change my mind. An absolute disaster. I just ran out of patience, too. They wanted to look like updraft plus? Okay, I’m switching to updraft plus. In version 5 bwpup, horrible controls, disappearing configurations, completely incomprehensible interface, which I’ve been trying to get to grips with for months. Not like this. I’m sorry.
